I was so excited when first time reading the script – the first screenplay in my life! And it was a comedy. Even while shooting, laughter could be heard all the time, making the overall experience pretty joyful.

The main location was a rural town that three hours away, made the scene-building journey both tough and fun. Meanwhile, passing the hillside path every day boosted my driving skills!

I couldn't be more grateful to the head carpenter, Le, who is quite familiar with wood carving art and has an artistic soul. Since we needed to create some ramshackle structures with scratched materials, which could only be roughly designed and discussed with references, Le's expertise was invaluable. In the end, he not only successfully brought our vision to life but also exceeded the expectations.

▼  CONSTRUCTION OF THE MAIN SET

The weird and isolated toilet was my favorite. It had to be well planned and designed since a bunch of ridiculous key scenes were going to happen there, such as someone slipping and falling, the toilet smashing, kicking away the door, and walls falling, etc.

To make the last standing-still wall reasonable, we designed it as the inside-out ruin of a Taiwanese traditional house. I am especially proud of this idea, as it organically draws upon my background in architecture training.
